Course content
1. Introduction, 2.-14. various texts from following theme will be choosen to interpretation: the cultural concept of patriotic romanticism; Jungmann's generation (poetry, prose, drama); subjective romanticism; literary work of K.H. Mácha; Biedermeier in the works of J. K. Tyl., K. J. Erben and B. Němcová; Havlíček's works; Group of the Máj almanac (1858), poetry and prose; two shapes of 'parnasisms ' in the Czech literature; the 'Lumír' and 'Ruch' model of culture and literature; variations in realistic prose; historical prose; 14. variations of realisms (naturalism, impresionism).

Learning outcomes
The course is based on the interpretation of the crucial literary works of Czech literature of the 19th century. Literary-theoretical knowledge and skills will be deepened and used to better comprehension of the texts.
Ability of the analyses of the text structure and literary-historical interpretation regarded to comprehension of the basic teoretical concepts (Structuralism, Hermeneutics, Possible Worlds Semantics, Naratology etc.).
Prerequisites
The course presupposes basic knowledge of Czech Language and Literature.

Written examination, Essay, Student performance assessment

Active participation in the class discussion.
