Course content
Cell Biology- methods of cell study. Light microscopes, electron microscopes, cell fractionation. Prokaryotic cell-cell structure, functions of organelles. Bacteria. Archea. Eukaryotic cell- structure of an eukaryotic cell: cell membranes, cytoplasm, nucleus, ribosomes, Golgi apparatus, lysosomes, cytoskeleton, cilia, flagella, mitochondria, plastids, cell wall, vacuole Basic labor protection and safety at work in chemical laboratory. Laboratory equipment. Chemical marking and storage. Periodic system of elements (periodic table). Nomenclature of anorganic and organic compounds. Chemical calculations. Concentration of solutions, dilution of solutions. Practical preparation of solutions. Basic laboratory work - practical training. Selected organic compounds - carboxylic acids and derivatives of carboxylic acids, heterocyclic compounds. Sugars, lipides - structure, characteristics. Nucleic acids and proteins - structure, characteristics.

Learning outcomes
Prokaryotic and eukaryotic cell -cell structure and functions of organelles. Transport of substance across cell membranes. Photosynthesis. Respiration. Cell division. Basic laboratory protection and safety at work in laboratory. Laboratory equipments. Chemical marking and storage. Periodic table of elements. Nomenclature of an organic and organic compounds. Basic laboratory procedures. Chemical calculations. Concentration of solutions, dilution of solutions, practical preparation of solutions. Selected organic compounds (carboxylic acids and derivatives of carboxylic acids, heterocyclic compounds) and natural substances (sugars, lipids, nucleic acids and proteins) - structure, characteristic, importance, separation. Methods of preparation (wet and permanent mount, coloration, cutting, ...). Microscopy technique. Electron microscopy. Work with scientific literature, processing and interpretation of research results. Methods of documentation in biology.
Students will know the basic differences between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cell, and differences in the structure of plant, animal and fungal cells. Practical training of laboratory procedures. Preparing of solutions and chemicals, practice basic laboratory analysis and experiments. Basic knowledge of chemistry and microscopy techniques.

Didactic test

Knowledge in cell biology: structure and functions of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cell, transport of substances across membranes. Training of laboratory techniques. Skills in preparation of solutions, chemicals, laboratory analyses and nature experiments. Principles of chemistry. Skills in microscopy techniques.
