Course content
Brief introduction to the specific forms or methods of preschool science and environmental education, especially direct study of nature, the use of (non)living things in kindergarten (eg, plants and care for them, selection of appropriate natural products to work in kindergartens, excursions, field practice etc). The seminar is organized so that students prepare seminar project with its presentation in the seminar followed by discussion about applicability in the real education and comparison with the reality of environmental education in kindergarten. The aim of the seminar is to prepare the project with integrated components: The literature recherché in order to further development and enhance science base for learning about nature Working with material from nature (living and nonliving things) - methodology of handling, observation and demonstration of nature, fixing specific knowledge of nature. Mastering the terminology. Didactic application of science topics based on knowledge in general teaching disciplines including preparing educational games and other forms and methods of environmental education in kindergarten. The course also includes a test of knowledge of selected living and nonliving things. Examples of seminar topics and projects: Aquatic ecosystems and their use in the preschool education. Forest ecosystems and their use in the preschool education. Excursion to a park and its use in the preschool education. Excursion to the ZOO and its use in the preschool education. Working with living and nonliving things at kindergarten.

Learning outcomes
Didactic application of the theoretical background (in the domain of inanimate and animate nature) in preschool science and environmental education according to the Framework Educational Programme for Pre-school Education.
In the course students acquire knowledge about current trends in science education, learn how to create a situation in which children's understanding of the world is enhanced, learn how to create basic awareness about the natural environment and its connection with the animate and inanimate nature.

Assessment methods and criteria
Combined exam

Didactic application of the theoretical background of biology, ecology and environmental sciences at pre-school level of education - preparation of a seminar project. Practical knowledge of selected species of plants, mushrooms and animals are required. All materials related to the lessons of science didactics (e.g. seminar theses and essays, projects, literature reviews etc.) are summed at the preservice teacher's portfolio which reflects professional skills and experience.
