Course content
- structure of bacterial cell, eubacteria, archebacteria, phytoplasmas, composition of cell wall - bacterial metabolism - bacterial genetics - plasmids, transformation, conjugation, transduction, principles of antibiotic resistance - biotechnology of microorganisms, vectors, cloning, GMO - composition of viral particles, viral genetics, function of viral proteins - bacteriophages, mycoviruses, prions - viruses of human and animals, HIV, retroviruses - plant viruses, subviral nucleic acids, ecology and evolution

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Demonstration, Projection, Laboratory
Learning outcomes
Presentation of fundamental principles of composition, metabolism and molecular genetics of bacteria, viruses, prions and subviral nucleic acids. Ways of technological use of microorganisms and its components (GMO, plasmids, nanotechnology) is presented together with announcement of principles how to fight against them (antiviral compounds, etc).
The graduate acquires basic knowledge in biology of bacteria and viruses and their importance for humans.
