Course content
This course is organized once per two weeks. 1. Importance of protists in ecosystems. Specific characters of protist cell: structure, physiology, reproduction Examples of protists and their biology: 2. Excavata: Euglenozoa, Parabasala, Heterolobosea 3. Amoebozoa: Lobosea, Mycetozoa 4. Rhizaria: Foraminifera, Radiolaria, Cercozoa 5. Chromalveolata: Apicomplexa, 6. Chromalveolata: Ciliophora Chromalveolata: Dinozoa, Opalozoa; Opisthoconta: Choanozoa and (Fungi:) Microspora

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Dialogic (discussion, interview, brainstorming), Monitoring, Demonstration, Laboratory
Learning outcomes
(1) Inform students about important characters of selected protist morphology and biology. Model protists will be choosen by their role in ecosystems and importance for humans being. (2) Demonstrate a possibility to use selected protists as model species for teaching of sciences at secondary school.
Student acquires knowledge on the biology and classification of selected protists that are necessary for science education at secondary school and/or at junior high school.

Assessment methods and criteria
Didactic test

(1) To gain an overview on diversity of protists and knowledge on biology of their selected model species. (2) To get skills to apply some knowledge in science education at secondary school in this context.
