Course content
|
Content of practicals: Course is divided to five parts (five days): 1. Introduction (presentations of following themes): Importance of floristic and faunal research in nature conservation, indication of habitat quality by various groups of organism (plants, plant communities, invertebrates), Management guides for nature reserves, monitoring of management, summary of main types of management, mowing as one type of active management 2. Field excursion on various localities with mowing management (examples of suitable and unsuitable managed localities), practice of monitoring. Evening lectures: grazing as one type of active management 3. Field excursion on various localities with grazing management (examples of suitable and unsuitable managed localities), practice of monitoring. Evening lectures: forest management, conservation of trees in urban zones (according of rare animal species conservation) 4. Field excursion on locality with open forest management, examples of suitable and unsuitable management in trees in urban zones, practice of monitoring. Evening lectures: pond management 5. Field excursion on localities with various pond management (examples of suitable and unsuitable managed localities or new pond construction), practice of monitoring.

Learning outcomes
|
Interdisciplinary course is focused on practical management and monitoring of rare species and plant communities in nature conservation. Course consists of practices in the field focused on various types of managements in nature reserves and other valuable localities. Evening lectures will be aimed at principles and specific types of management (mowing, pasture, forest management, conservation of trees in urban zones, pond management). Course can be useful for students, who want to work in practical nature conservation.
Students should learn basic trends of modern plant conservation in the practise. Course focus on students which prepare to the praxis in various institutions of nature conservation and for students which interested in managements in natural habitats and its monitoring. This topic is presented by experienced people with direct experience in this field and with cooperation with plant conservation officers.

Prerequisites
|
It is assumed the basic botanical knowledges on the level of the course Botanika vyšších rostlin - malá (KBO 132). It is also assumed the mean physical fitness for the visiting of localities in the field. It is recommended to complete the course Nature Conservation in Practice (KBO310) and the course Biotopes of the Czech Republic (KBE / 354).

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Oral examination
Credits requirements the presence in the field course and short talk about basic aspects teaching during the course. It is necessary to answer 50% of the questions that are directed with regard to the specialization / field of the student.
