Course content
Content of lectures: The course is planned as a block of 5 days stay in interesting location by the phycological point of view. Last day is designed as a lecture summarizing the basic types of algae and cyanobacteria, which occurred at the site. Content of practicals: The course is designed as a 5-day field trip practicum, where the morning is organized for field sampling and the afternoon is devoted to the proper determination of cyanobacteria and algae species under the supervision of lecturers.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monitoring, Demonstration, Laboratory, Excursion
  • Field trip - 22 hours per semester
  • Preparation for credit - 22 hours per semester
  • Class attendance - 30 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
The student will learn to determine cyanobacteria and algae at the species level. The course is organized as a joint course with the Faculty of Science of Charles University and Masaryk University, in 2024 in Sloup, Czech Republic, from 17 to 21 June.
After successful finishing of the course, the student is able to independently use algal and cyanobacterial identification keys in practical work.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of cyanobacteria and algae.
KBO/134
----- or -----
KBO/911

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Interim evaluation

Credits: The basic requirement is active participation in the field work - self-sampling of algae and cyanobacteria during all field excursions. Another requirement is the presence on the microscopy session, in which course teachers demonstrate the determination of the species. At the end of the course, the student, under the supervision of the teacher, independently performs the determination of the species that have been demonstrated during the course. The difficulty is individually adapted to the level of study of the participants.
