Course content
Content of lectures: Introduction of diatoms in detail. Development, deversification and speciation. Actual overview of diversity, autoecology, bioindication. Content of practices: Practical information about diatoms, their diversity, ecology nad biology. Practical determination using knowledge obtained during theoretical classes and water quality assessment of model water body accoring to present diatom community.

Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Laboratory
  • Class attendance - 65 hours per semester

  • Preparation for exam - 60 hours per semester
  • Preparation for classes - 20 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
Detailed acquaintig of students with evolution, biology, cytology, taxonomy, ecology and pracical determination of diatoms.
Student will get an overview on diversity of diatoms, their ecology and evolution. Herewith will obtain knowledge important fo practical dedermination.
Prerequisites
The course presupposes knowledge at least at the level of examination in Basics of Phycology, Mycology and Botany.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written examination

Presence at least at 75 % of practicals, 55% success in the test.
