|
Chemistry, its historical background (technologies: fermentation, pottery, pigments). Chemistry, its historical background (technologies: metals, glass, dye-works, drugs, cosmetics). Chemistry and its ancestor - alchemy. The aims of alchemy. Ancient Greece, Roma, Arabic world. Medieval Europe, important persons of alchemy (Geber, Avicenna, Albertus Magnus, Roger Bacon, Raimundus Lullus, Arnald of Villanova). Alchemy in courts of aristocracy in Czech Kingdom. The speech of alchemy, astroalchemy. Compounds discovered by alchemists, laboratory and technological processes. Iatrochemistry, Paracelsus, Tachenius, Basilius Valentinus. Beginnings of scientific chemistry, first theories of gases (van Helmont). Phlogiston theory. (Becher, Stahl), chemistry in the 16. and 17.century. Scientific chemistry is coming. 18. century, Newton, Lomonosov, Lavoisier, Scheele, Cavendish, Priestley, the end of phlogiston theory. Chemical composition of matter is still question. The chemical laws (Proust, Dalton, Gay-Lussac, Avogadro,). The beginnings of atomic theory. Atomic and molecular weight. Periodic table, Mendelejev. The time of discovery of new elements. The heritage of historical chemistry.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the subject is to understand the historical links in the origins and evolution of chemical subjects. Such knowledge is a suitable complement to basic chemical subjects. History of chemistry is especially suitable for students studying chemistry teaching.
The knowledge of basic historical events related to the evolution of chemistry since pre-alchemy period to the period of current chemical disciplines (chemistry inorganic, organic, physical chemistry, biochemistry, etc.).
