Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Dialogic (discussion, interview, brainstorming)
  • Preparation for exam - 28 hours per semester
  • Class attendance - 14 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to provide a theoretical base of toxicology. The course begins with the basic definitions; the subsequent lectures are aimed at the individual chapter of the general toxicology - mechanism of effect, pharmacokinetics, analysis, first aid, legal enactment. In the special part the poisons leading to the intoxication in most cases and the most dangerous poisons are stressed (carbon monoxide, methanol, ethanol, drugs, medicaments, plant poisons, chemical warfare substances). The course contains toxic aspects of common chemicals used during the teaching of chemistry.
Ability to communicate with toxicological workplaces and to understand their findings; ability to transform knowledge of toxicology to the school system; ability to apply knowledge in other chemical and related disciplines.
Prerequisites
Recommended knowledge of high school chemistry.

Assessment methods and criteria
Combined exam

Commanding of the basics of selected parts of toxicology with respect to the necessary knowledge for security of work in laboratory and for future teachers.
