Course content
1. Nationality and other minorities, majority and minority culture. 2. Marginalization, social exclusion. 3. Racism, inter-ethnical conflict. 4. Multiculturalism. 5. Legal and institutional safeguards of equality. 6. The right to asylum and persons with asylum status in CR. 7. More modern minorities in CR (Vietnamese, ). 8. Historical minorities in CR (Ukrainians, ). 9. Roma communities in CR (from history to the issue of social exclusion). 10. Social work with members of ethnic minorities (especially SW with Roma clients - pillars, methods and techniques, terrain social work).

Learning outcomes
The course analyses the majority part of the society and minorities as interactive parts of the contemporary society. It brings a theory of minorities and the general problems of group dynamics of positive and negative attitude formation in society. The students will learn what the term minority means and how a minority arises in society. They will further learn of the various possible approaches to working with minorities (e.g. anti-oppressive attitudes, the ecological perspective) and on the example of work with minorities gain insight in the issues of minorities by way of understanding their history, analysis of their typical contemporary problems and analysis of the legislative options. The classwork will include active work with students attitude to members of minorities in the form of activities after watching documents on minorities in CR and other similarly focused activities. The students will know and understand basic concepts associated with social work with minorities and will be able to discern and reflect their fundamental cultural attitudes and their consequences for social work with minority clients. They will further be able to appropriately apply the approaches of social work with minorities.

Prerequisites
For completing the course the subjects Theoretical Foundations of Social Work and Case Social Work must have been completed.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance assessment, Test

- In case of students absence at the introductory lesson finding out the current requirements and conditions of study, which are always further specified at the first lesson, from colleagues, - studying the compulsory literature, - studying the study materials, - finding further information on the internet (the requirement is specified for the individual topics) - watching or listening to documents, - taking a written test.
