Course content
1. Basic knowledge about the family, family definition, family function, family value, family as a system, internal structure and mutual interactions, family roles, the importance of subsystems in the family for social work. 2. Theory and methods of social work with the family 3. Types of therapeutic and counseling work with the family, social services focused on the family. 4. Assessment of the situation of the endangered child and his family; family disorders in relation to the child, parenting disorders. 5. Professional visit to the family. 6. OSPOD. Working with family, child, multi-problem families. 7. Children living outside their own family, substitute family care, institutional education. 8. Communication with the child client and his parents; transit care. 9. Specific situations in the family - divorce and post-divorce care, family and illness, family with a disabled member, adult, family with a senior, family with a dying member. 10. Problems of juvenile delinquents. Family with a member serving a sentence. 11. A family in which domestic violence has occurred; family with a substance addict. Catching social network, organization. 12. Refugee family basic features, help refugees, organizations dealing with refugees. 13.Romani family - internal structure of family ties, importance of roles in Romani family, community coexistence, importance of traditions in Romani family. Specifics of social work with a Roma family.

Learning outcomes
The course provides a basic insight into the issues of social work with the family. First, students are introduced to the basic theoretical background and the resulting methods of working with the family. Furthermore, attention will be paid to individual areas of work with the family with a minor child, but also to other areas of work with the family. Related legislation is also presented in each area. During the seminars, great attention is paid to the reflection of practical skills and their connection with theoretical knowledge.

Assessment methods and criteria

Active participation in seminars, attendance at least 75%. Elaboration of seminar work: The student will prepare a seminar work focused on a specific area of social work with the family, which will include a case study. Alternatively, he can choose the theoretical elaboration of topics: assessment of the needs of the endangered child and his family, alternative family care, communication with the child client. Written test: The course ends with an examination of the acquired knowledge in the form of a written test. The test includes the issue of social work with the family in the range of recommended literature.
