Course content
About circumstances which influence social reality - The survey plan - opening project - The organization of survey - Preparing of sample - Characterization of basic methods and technics of data collection - Standardized and non standardized technics of data collection - Technics connected with interview, ethic of survey - Disccusion about research projects - Analysis of documents, content analysis , case studies - Technics of observation and sociometry - Charakteristics of quantitative surveys - The main types of qualitative surveys - Proccessing and data analysis - The possibilities of data presentation Practice : - About basic notions of social research and their relations - Identification- conceptualization- operationalization - The role of hypothesis in survey - The organization of project - The role of pilot study - The preparing of questionnaire an questions - The standardized interview - The checking of reliability and validity of data - Content analysis and sociometry in practise - Qualitative survey and its preferences - Classificaton of data - Preparing of final report

Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Written action (comprehensive tests, clauses)
Learning outcomes
The subject elucidates the basic research methods and technics in social work and technics of kvantitative and kvalitative charakter - inquire, observation, analysis of documents etc.
The students prepare the project of social research with all main parts and acceptable technic, they interprete classification of I. and. II. level, present basic information about results of survey
Prerequisites
The subject links to wide characterization of sociology and knowledge of main sociological branches.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance assessment, Interim evaluation

- Credit will be given for completing all of the following tasks within the time limit. - 2 written papers: written papers will not be graded, but if the quality is insufficient, learners will be asked to revise them. - 70% attendance at lectures and active participation in discussions. In case of more than three absences, an additional assignment will be given. - Participation in the credit discussion 16.05. - Students who fail to attend the final discussion without permission will not receive credit. - The instructor may accommodate for illness or other compelling reasons. A make-up final credit discussion may be arranged by written request to the instructor.
