Course content
1) Introduction into the problems; 2-7) Historical developement of the concept of "human dignity" (antiquity, biblical tradition, patristic era, scholastic era, humanism, Renaissance, modern period); 8-11) Human dignity as higher juridical value (The Universal Declaration, world-view plurality - process of secularization, importance of religious and ethical values in pluralistic society...), 12-14) Anthropocentrism, scientific naturalism - death of individual, dignity of human being and medical practice.

Learning outcomes
The goal of this course is to introduce the student to the concept of human dignity in ethical argumentation. The student is apprised of the concept of human dignity in the course of history (pagan antiquity, biblical tradition, patristic era, scholastic era, humanism, Renaissance, modern period, present). The student is apprised of the connections of the concept of human dignity - human rights, of importance of the conception of human dignity in present ethical argumentation.
The student understands the concept of human dignity; its importance in ethical argumentation; relation to the human rights.
