Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to arouse students' interest in sociology, motivate them to study modern societies and develop their "sociological imagination". The course will provide a broad overview of theoretical perspectives and concepts with a focus on everyday life. It will help students understand the role of culture, values, religion, family and social inequalities in the contemporary world.

Assessment methods and criteria

Student performance assessment, Analysis of the qualification work, Self-reflection, Interim evaluation
Assignments in the form of study diaries based on the Book Sociology. Their submission is mandatory and must be submitted on time. Each study diary will be graded. Assignment 1: Study diary for each student* with their own photo: Fundamentals of Sociology (due by October 19) 2nd assignment: study journal in a group of up to 4 people based on the book Educated by Tara Westover: Social Inequality, Culture, and Identity (due by November 16) 3rd assignment: Poster (due by December 14) and its group presentation on December 17, based on the same procedure as for the study diary, in a group of up to 4 people with reference to the book Educated by Tara Westover and the Sociology Book: Families and intimacy, The role of institutions, Life in a global world (due by December 14). - Mandatory participation in the mid-term exam - In case of absence from the mid-term exam or group presentation, students will record a video on a given topic. - The final exam grade will be the average of the grades for the diaries, the mid-term exam, and the presentation.
