Course content
Lectures: 1. Basic concepts and indicators. Cohort and cross-sectional approach. Exponential Growth. 2. Theory of demographic transition. Demographic dividend. Population optimum. 3. Mortality analysis. Life expectancy. Life tables. Cohort mortality. Difference mortality. 4. Marriage and family: first and repeated marriages. Nuptiality indicators. Nuptiality tables. Divorce. 5. Fertility: data sources, fertility indicators, total fertility rate, completed fertility rate. Standardization and Coale´s indexes. Cohort fertility. 6. Population growth and population reproduction in cross-sectional and cohort model. 7. Demographic ageing and its consequences. 8. Population and Human Capital. 9. Stable and stationary population. Lotka´s equation. 10. Spatial and Regional Demography. 11. Migration. Migration models.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to extend knowledge and skills of students in the demographic data analysis, to deepen methodical statistic apparatus of the regional demographic analysis. Basic principles and methods of demographic analyis are supported with the examples of the Czech republic and other European countries.
Student knows usually used methods of demographic data analysis, masters mathematic - statistical apparatus of particular demographic events and demograpic modelling and is able to apply it in a problem solution. Student is capable to assess up-to-date demographic situation of a chosen population in the frame of demograhpic synthesis.

Assessment methods and criteria
Combined exam, Test, Seminar work

Credit: processing of credits exercises in the Moodle e-learning system (at least 60% of the course assignments given in the course - correctly and in the required quality - it is necessary to submit the solution for all assigned tasks) Exam: exam written and oral, minimum for successful completion of written test (test): 60% of the correct answers.
