Course content
Lecture Topics: 1. Regions and regionalization. Major types of regions. 2. Urbanization. Development of urbanization in the Czech Republic. 3. Current trends in urbanization and regional development. 4. Regional management. Definition of regional management; different concepts of regional management. 5. Methodology of regional development. 6. Spatial planning. Introduction to spatial planning, typology of regions, cohesion regions. 7. Regional disparities. 8. Development programs of municipalities, cities and regions. 9. Partnership and subsidiarity in regional management. 10. Selected areas of interest of regional policy, brownfields, clusters and cluster initiatives. Exercises follow the topics of lectures.

Learning outcomes
The course is focused on exploring the space and determinants of regional development in terms of management needs in public administration. It deals with new trends in public administration, management issues at regional and local level.
Students will obtain an overview of Czech and European regional policy development, will be able to understand the relation between regional policy and regional development. Students will be able to explain the impact of regional policy on regional development with using the example case studies.
Prerequisites
Summary of scientific literature, general knowledge.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Seminar work

Credit Requirements: Active participation of the student - presentation of papers on a previously approved topic, max. 2 absences. Examination Requirements: Oral exam - knowledge of the subject matter within the scope of this syllabus.
