Lectures: 1. Introduction - regional statistics, region, regionalization. 2. Exploratory data analysis. 3. Spatial exploratory data analysis. 4. Spatial autocorrelation - global, local characteristics. 5. Chosen methods of spatial statistics. 6. Location analysis and GIS. 7. Multivariate analysis 1 (multivariate correlation and regression analysis, canonical correlation analysis). 8. Multivariate analysis 2 (principal component analysis, factor analysis). 9. Multivariate analysis 3 (discriminant analysis, correspondence analysis, multidimensional scaling). 10. Spatial interaction (gravity models). 11. Spatial regression models, geographically weighted regression. 12. Final synthesis. Seminars - thematically follow in lectures.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Dialogic (discussion, interview, brainstorming), Demonstration, E-learning
  • Preparation for credit - 20 hours per semester
  • Preparation for exam - 36 hours per semester
  • Class attendance - 56 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
The main objective of the course is to assimilate theoretical backgrounds, supporting mathematical - statistical apparatus, methods and practical skills of basic computing for (spatial) analysis of socio-economic activities in a region with the aid of GIS and free available specialized SW (GeoDa, CrimeStat, R).
Students understand basic principles of the statistical method (classical and also spatial statistics), probability and spatial data analysis and can apply these methods when assessing activities in regions. They are also able to connect the methods with appropriate tools of GIS and free available SW for spatial data analysis and thus carry out complex analysis of the region synthetically.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Written examination

Credit: processing of credits exercises in the Moodle e-learning system (at least 60% of the course assignments given in the course - correctly and in the required quality - it is necessary to submit the solution for all assigned tasks) Exam: exam written and oral, minimum for successful completion of written test (test): 60% of the correct answers.
