Course content
List of topics: - Two branches (Ionian and Eleatic) - Return to the philosophy of nature after Parmenides (Empedocle, Anaxagoras, atomism) - Anthropological turn in philosophy (Socrates, the Sophists, Socratic schools) - The classical period of Greek philosophy (Plato, Aristotle) - The Hellenistic philosophy (epicureanism, stoicism, skepticism, Neoplatonism) - Patristics (Augustin and church fathers, heretics) - Early Scholasticism (the problem of universals, Anselm, Abelard) - High Scholasticism (Bonaventura, Thomas Aquinas) - Late Scholasticism (Duns Scotus, Ockham)

Learning outcomes
The aim of this subject is to present the basic figures and streams of ancient and medieval philosophy.
A student gets the overview of the history of the ancient and medieval philosophy, of the ways of philosophical thought and argumentation in the period.
