Course content
1. Indus Valley Civilization 2. Vedic cosmogeny, vedic ritual 3. Vedic pantheon, brahmanism 4. Hinduism, puranas, cosmology 5. Trimurti, shakti 6. Modern hinduism, yoga, Indian philosophy 7. Sikhism, Jainism 8. The Four Noble Truths 9. Tripitaka - the standard collection of scriptures in the Theravada Buddhist tradition 10. Theravada, sangha, Buddhist councils

Learning outcomes
The course deals with religions in India. Students get acquainted with texts about Indus Valley Civilization, Vedic cosmogeny, vedic ritual, Vedic pantheon, brahmanism, Hinduism, puranas, cosmology, Trimurti, shakti, modern hinduism , yoga, philosophy, Sikhism, Jainism, The Four Noble Truths, Tripitaka, Theravada or sangha.
The student orientates in the questions of hinduism.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination

Students must know the content of the lectures and recomended literature. Students are also required to prepare a paper from a book from the bibliography of papers. Specific selection of books signed by the student on the sheet posted at the bulletin board of the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, Faculty of Theology, next to office number 4.28.
