Course content
1. Introduction into metal material studies, categorizing of metal and their characteristic properties, natural abundance and application in technical practice 2. Elementary properties of metals(magnetic properties, electrical conductivity, chemical resistance, resistance against corrosion, abradability resistance, specific mass, point of melting and burning, etc.) 3. Mechanical properties of metals (elasticity, hardness, abradability resistance, fragility, etc.) 4. Technological properties of metals (ductility, formability at high and low temperatures, weldability, castability, work-ability, hardenability, etc.) 5. Typical application of metals, choice of materials for machine parts according to their properties 6. The most common kinds of alloys(brass, bronze, duralumin, levers, bearing metals -composition), ageing of alloys 7. Categorizing of materials from technical points of view (usual qualities, noble, alloyed, alloyed, fireproof, refractiorinees-under-load, non-rusting, case-hardened, hardenability, tool (steel), constructional, for forming, for casting, etc.) 8. Introduction into iron and non-ferrous categorization according to ČSN, EN, ISO standards 9. Categorization metals standards comparing ČSN, EN, ISO , trade marks and producers' marking, profile marking, marking of rods and metal sheets, their state 10. Introduction into metallography, equilibrium states of systems, pure metals and alloys 11. Fundamentals of metal heat processing, casting, annealing, letting through, heat treating 12. Patenting, surface hardening and casting 13. Cementing, nitriding, nitro-cementing 14. Production and processing of technical iron

Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing)
Learning outcomes
Metal materials and their processing. Overview and using of technical metals. Raw iron, steel and cast iron processing. Technically important nonironic metals and their casts. Properties, using, prodaction. Elementary properties of materials and their testing. Lead-in into metalography. Methodology aimed at material technological area of teaching.
Student acquires an overview in production, propeties and use of metallic technical materials, especially metals, iron, non-ferrous metals, precious, light, heavy and powder materials.
