Course content
1. Motivation - areas of science, in which computer simulations are used. State of the art. 2-4. The elementary classification of tasks and appropriate algorithms for their solution. 5-8. Selected numerical methods and their principles. 9-11. Overview of available software (both commercial and freeware applications). Demonstration of the work in these applications. 12-13. Computer modelling of selected phenomena (according to the students' interests). 14. Time reserve.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Dialogic (discussion, interview, brainstorming), Individual preparation for exam
Learning outcomes
The course provides an overview of basic approaches, which are used in the area of computer simulations of given systems.
The student acquires a basic overview of the software available (both commercial and freeware applications). The student is familiar with elementary numerical methods and computational algorithms. He knows how to use the software and numerical methods for solving of a given problem.
Prerequisites
Knowledge in the area of mechanics, molecular physics, mathematics, and thermodynamics. Computer skills.

Assessment methods and criteria
Analysis of student's language skills

To develop a computer model of a given system.
