Course content
Foreign language I (English language) 1. To read a book of 200 pages in English in the area of expetise of the particular student. The chosen text should be clearly linked to the student's PhD project. The choice of the text could be discussed with either the supervisoir or the examiner in the English department beforehand. The text can be in a book form or it can be a selection of articles. The student will briefly summarize the text and will hand it in beforehand. At the exam key terms of the text will be discussed or there will be a discussion of the topic. 2. Write a structured CV (necessary to hand in beforehand). 3. Present the PhD project in English. It will be a presentation in front of the examiner and other students followed by a discussion. Foreign language I (German language) The aim of this subject is to deepen the student´s language skills that are necessary to actively use science communication in the subject area, both in oral and written form. The requirements to successfully pass the subject correspond to the knowledge of B2 level.

Learning outcomes
Foreign language I (English language) The aim of the exam in English meant for PhD students is to reach proficiency in English at an advanced level, in the area of ESP it is the ability to read academic texts, write academic articles in the specific research area and presentation skills. Foreign language I (German language) The aim of this subject is to deepen the student´s language skills that are necessary to actively use science communication in the subject area, both in oral and written form. The requirements to successfully pass the subject correspond to the knowledge of B2 level.
At the end of the course the students will be able to present their research findings at an international level, they will have effective communication skills in their specific area of expertise, good command of grammar, idioms and academic writing. They will be able to read academic texts in their area and will be able to react to them in both speaking and writing at an adequate level.

PhD thesis topic presentation in German language (both oral and written) 2. Providing evidence of the ability to read and understand scholarly literature in German language, related to the topic of the Phd thesis (on the basis of a scholarly text, totalling 150 pages).
