Course content
1. Position of the Czech Republic in the world and in Europe, changes of borders, integration of the Czech Republic into international structures 2. Demographic development, population density, demographic characteristics 3. Settlement development, settlement structure 4. Demographic characteristics 5. Basic characteristics of the historical development of the Czech economy, periodization, inertia, restructuring, 6. Sector structure of the Czech economy 7. Agricultural production of the Czech Republic 8. Industrial production of the Czech Republic 9. Mining industry, harvesting of raw materials, energy industry 10. Manufacturing industry 11. Transportation industry, services and foreign trade 12. Geography of tourist industry 13. Synthetic characteristics of the social-geographical regions of the Czech Republic, physical and human environment 14. Political map of the Czech Republic

Learning outcomes
The aim of this seminar is to make students acquainted with social-geographic characteristics of the Czech Republic and its regions. In the seminar the students will be given basic facts about location, aspects and changes of the socio-geographic phenomena and processes in the region of the Czech Republic. The stress will especially be put on the following subjects: geographical location of the Czech Republic, historical-geographical development, development of the public administration in the region, population and its demographic structure, settlement structure, industry and its sector structure, agriculture, forest and water industry, transport industry, market, services, tourism and leisure industry, economic integration of the Czech Republic into the European structures and into the global economy, geographical regionalisation of the Czech Republic - socio-geographic regions and their description. In the seminar the students should use and extend the knowledge and skills gained in the previous general geography seminars, especially in those focused on human geography.
