Course content
1. Statistics as a scientific discipline. Basic concepts in statistics. 2. Statistical research system - phases and forms of statistical research. Statistical processing - data sorting 3. Statistical series of frequency distribution - absolute, relative, cumulative frequency and their graphical representation 4. Tables and graphs as representations of statistical phenomena 5. Measures of central tendency - arithmetic and harmonized mean (simple, weighted) 6. Measures of location - median, mode, quantiles 7. Measures of variability - absolute (range, average deviation, variance, standard deviation) 8. Measures of variability - relative (relative average deviation, coefficient of variation) 9. Measures of skewness and kurtosis 10. Measures of concentration - Lorenz curve, concentration (Gini) coefficient, concentration ratio 11. Time series - process, development trends 12. Measures of growth - absolute (absolute increase, average absolute increase, increase acceleration); relative (growth coefficient, average growth coefficient - geometrical average, increase coefficient) 13. Dependency between two quantitative signs - regression dependency, coefficient of correlation, coefficient of determination 14. Dependency between two qualitative signs - association, contingency

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to teach students standard statistical procedures of data analysis applied on examples of geographical data, so that the students have no difficulty using statistics in exercises in the field of social geography, physical geography and regional geography. The main discussed topics - basic statistical concepts, frequency distribution, basic statistical characteristics (mean, variability characteristics, characteristics of concentration, skewness, kurtosis), time series and growth rates, depending on random variables.
Student competences after graduation of the subject result especially from the aims of the subject (see.) and the content of the subject (see.).

Assessment methods and criteria
Written examination

Active participation in seminars (the presence is required at min. 85% of Exercises). Solving and submitting (at specified dates) given statistical exercise. Successful completion of the test during the semester and of the final credit test at the end of the semester (60%).
