Course content
1. Geography as a scientific discipline 2. The position of geography in science systems 3. Inner structure of geography 4. Geography and its relation with other disciplines 5. Geographical thought - Antiquity 6. Geographical thought - the Middle Ages and Modern times 7. Geographical thought - 19th and 20th century 8. The development of Czech geography 9. Main theoretical concepts in current geography - space and place 10. Main theoretical concepts in current geography - region and regionalisation 11. Main theoretical concepts in current geography - landscape 12. Main geographical data sources 13. The principles of scientific work in geography 14. Scientific literature review

Learning outcomes
Knowledge of basics from theoretic geography facilitates to the students their better orientation in the structure of geographical problems and disciplines and in connections of geography and other sciences. Students will be also introduced to the development of geography and to the application possibilities of geography. Main solving themes - introduction to the theoretical geography, geography as a science discipline, basic geographical terms, geography inside the sciences structure, structure of geographical disciplines, problems of principal geographical disciplines (of physical geography, human geography, regional geography, methodology of geography), development of geography, geographical information, geographical production (geographical publications and serials, bibliography, work with literature, quotations).
Student competences after graduation of the subject result especially from the aims of the subject (see.) and the content of the subject (see.).

Written examination

Work up quotation and annotation articles on engaged subject, will get structure potential diploma work.
