Learning outcomes
The subject follows the lessons of the "Information Technologies". The aim is to deepen students knowledge and skills in using the common software (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access), to teach them searching geographical information on Internet, and to introduce them basics of GIS and the ArcView possibilities (this issue will be further discussed in detail learning the subject "Geographical Information Systems and Remote Sensing". Main solving themes and used software - the Microsoft Office programme equipment (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access), internet searching for geographical map and data, work with GIS software ArcView 9.1, characteristics of the Geographical Information Systems, possibilities of the GIS use, geodata, metadata, structure of GIS data, principles of classification, creation of basic map outputs.
Student competences after graduation of the subject result especially from the aims of the subject (see.) and the content of the subject (see.).

Assessment methods and criteria
Written examination

Students have to make good tutorial tasks - (MS Office, ArcExplorer, ArcMap) and the partial session at programme ArcGIS.
