Course content
|
Importance of farm animal genomics; Descriptive genomics (linkage maps - purpose, construction principle, genetic markers used and their evaluation and testing (PCR_RFLP, microsatellites, SNP, DNA arrays, programs used for construction, databases), cytogenetic maps (nomenclature and karyotypes, in situ hybridization, somatic hybrid cells, Zoo-FISH, databases), comparative maps (principle, nomenclature, use, database), RH maps (construction principle, meaning, database), physical maps (contig construction), livestock genome sequencing (gene and genome organization, principle of sequencing, current status and significance, database of sequences, programs for their comparison.) Principles of QTL mapping in cattle and pigs (used populations, current status, databases, types of genetic markers, selection using markers).

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of livestock genomics is to identify genes that determine the phenotypic variability of utility traits and properties for the purpose of their manipulation in populations by means of selection using markers (MAS).
The student can independently navigate in the given issue and is able to use the acquired knowledge in their scientific activities or other practice.

|
The student is familiar with the issues within the scope of university studies and is willing to study independently.
