Course content
1. Breeding as a significant intensification factor. Breeding of new types of varieties or new crops, the importance of breeding. New methods and approaches in breeding, phenotypic and genotypic selection in breeding, genotypic level of selection, connection of modern techniques of plant genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics and classical approaches in plant breeding. 2. Application of biotechnological procedures and methods of molecular biology in plant breeding. Biotechnology, micropropagation, healing, conservation of genotypes, induction of haploid and dihaploid formation, embryoculture and remote hybridization, molecular biology methods, genome analysis of cultivated plants, molecular mapping, molecular selection markers, MAS and MMAS selection systems, GEM and GWAS approaches, recombinant DNA techniques in plant breeding, GMO and cisgenic crop breeding. 3. Characteristics and overview of molecular markers, protein, isoenzyme, DNA markers, techniques based on hybridization, PCR with random and specific primers, sequencing. Methods of molecular data analysis. Primer design. Methods of laboratory testing of primers. DNA sequencing. DNA sequence analysis. Statistical analysis of molecular data. Analysis of dominant and codominant markers. Use of molecular markers in genetics, breeding, systematics and population biology.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to provide an overview of the main trends in plant and animal breeding, modern methods and procedures of breeding and perspectives in breeding
Students are able to orientate in the field of plant and animal genetics and breeding
Prerequisites
Standard knowledge of molecular biology

Combined exam

Active participation in laboratory training, understanding the curriculum defined for the exam.
