Sense and perspectives of livestock production. Process of origination, phylogeny and domestication of animal with regards to their future utilization. Categories of animal, theory of breed and lower taxonomic and breeders entities. Characteristic and classification of traits and features, biological principles of morphological traits - exterior, carcass, hair, pigmentation or colouring. Biological principles of physiological traits - constitution (habit), condition, reproduction, growth and development, eyrly maturity, meat and milk production and others. Basic components of breeding work. Genetic parametersof traits and features by individual and population. Breeding value and sources for its estimation. Principles of theory of selection - genetic improvement and its factors, means, forms, selection modes, methods of selection and their utilization. Classification of methods, used in animal breeding, sense and use of single forms, including methods of hybridization. Substance of selection and hybridization methods.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to give teoretical principles of farm animal husbandry with delimination of their relationship to economic usability for different types of production.
They know the phylogeny and domestication of farm animals. They know the animal systematic, the theory of breeds. Morphological and physiological fundamentals of animal performance. They command the basics of breeding, genetic parameters of traits, breeding value, selection. Methods of breeding incl. hybridization, selection and hybridization programes.
Prerequisites
