Course content
Historical overview of plant breeding. Systematic classification. Cytology, genetics, biology of reproduction and development. Breeding goals, topics and objectives. Breeding methods, including unconventional/biotechnological, selection methods, testing of genotypes and breeding populations. Special breeding of cereals (wheat, rye, triticale, barley and oats), legumes (peas, pelvis, lentils, beans, beans, vetch, soy), oilseeds (rapeseed, poppy) ), industrial crops (flax, hops) and seed root crops (sugar and fodder beet), potatoes, fodder (clover, fodder grass), main vegetables, fruit trees and shrubs (kernels, stone fruits, berries).

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing)
  • Semestral paper - 90 hours per semester
  • Preparation for classes - 50 hours per semester
  • Preparation for exam - 50 hours per semester
  • Class attendance - 56 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to give introduction to special plant breeding, breeding topics and objectives, appropriate breeding methods and procedures for major agricultural and horticultural crops.
The student can independently navigate in the given issue and is able to use the acquired knowledge in their scientific activities or other practice.
Prerequisites
The student is familiar with the issues within the scope of university studies and is willing to study independently.

Oral examination

Standard knowledge of genetics, physiology and biochemistry of plants.
