Course content
Basic principles of GIS, terminology, GIS layers GIS hardware and software features and data structure (raster and vector data, database structures, computer data maintenance) Map projection and georeferencing systems in GIS Data input and acquisition, data preprocessing (raster and vector digitization, georeferencing) Digital elevation model (DEM), data sources and DEM building, DEM derivatives Principles of remote sensing (RS), RS as a GIS data source Principles of multi-layer GIS analysis, GIS outputs and their presentation (graphs, tables, maps) Methodology of multipurpose application of GIS in soil science, hydrology, agriculture and ecological studies

Learning outcomes
The course introduces Geographical Information Systems (GIS) as a computer-assisted system for the acquisition, storage, analysis and display of geographically related data on different spatial and information level
The student will get acquainted with basic concepts and the essence of geographic information systems. Studen is able to interpret, edit and create raster and vector data.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of the geography of the Czech Republic

Assessment methods and criteria
Combined exam

Attendance at lectures, obligatory and active attendance of seminars, to elaborate a credit thesis. Min. of 60% correct answers in written exam test
