Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Demonstration, Projection, Graphic and art activities
  • Semestral paper - 40 hours per semester
  • Preparation for credit - 30 hours per semester
  • Preparation for exam - 30 hours per semester
  • Class attendance - 42 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
The aim of the teaching subject is to acquire the basic understanding of the conventional and modern building materials and constructions. This subject is the first connection with the building specialization for students. As an introduction, it should also make it easier to understand the continuous comprehension of the consequential building disciplines. All these subjects form a comprehensive packet of information about the basic actions in civil engineering.
Student is able to recognize and choose a suitable building material to apply into a building construction based on properties of this material and he can rate this properties.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of basic terms used in construction, knowledge of basic physical quantities and ability to solve basic math-physical tasks, ability to work in group.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Written examination, Seminar work

Requirements for credit: attending exercises, pass two controlling tests (min. 50%), elaboration of the semester work Requirements for exam: pass a written test (min. 50%)
