Course content
1. Mathematics, mathematics didactics, constructivism. Number sense. Introduction of numbers. Number ranges in primary grades. Different modes of representation. Big numbers. Introduction, representation of number relationships. Equality, inequality. Whole numbers. Integers. Rational numbers. Rounding. Expression of a quantity in position system. Decimal position system. 2. Test. Addition and subtraction (understanding, modes of representation, contexts, ways of counting). Multiplication and division (understanding, modes of representation, contexts, ways of counting). Properties of arithmetic operations with whole numbers (introduction on primary school level, modes of representation, "proofs", use in mental arithmetic). Pre-algebraic thinking. 3. Written additions and subtraction. Historical algorithms. Written multiplication and division. Estimations. Calculators. 4. Handling data. Tables and graphs. Computer aided mathematics on primary school level.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the subject: - equipped the student with knowledge dealing with: development of number concept of the children, introduction of the basis and attributes of the basic arithmetic operations, practising the computation, use of different models, development of (pre-)algebraic thinking, handling data; - development of subject didactic competence of future primary mathematics teacher (especially formulation of problems, communication with pupils).
Student acquires (a) knowledge about mathematical concepts developed on primary school level (whole numbers and arithmetic operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division), their mathematical background, order in learning and relationships; (b) competence in elaboration of mathematical concepts for the school education, (c) competence in diagnosis and evaluation of pupil's performance.

Active participation in seminars, seminar work and its presentation.
