  • Svoboda Petr, Mgr. DiS. et DiS.
Course content
Processing of biological data, eventually creation of a bioinformatic tool, or modification of the existing one, in order to process the data. The Project Report as a result should be in the form of a manuscript consisting of Abstract, Introduction, Material and Methods, Results, and Discussion. In an ideal case, the manuscript is then submitted to and published in an international scientific journal.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Dialogic (discussion, interview, brainstorming), Work with text (with textbook, with book), Laboratory
  • Preparation for classes - 25 hours per semester
  • Class attendance - 150 hours per semester
  • Semestral paper - 25 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
Independent semester project done in cooperation with biologists in their labs. The aim is to provide students with valid biological data sources, which they have to evaluate and transform them into useful structures, which can be used for scientific purposes later on.
The student should be able to work independently on the resolution of a given biological question by using bioinformatic skills, including the modification of a bioinformatic tool, or eventually create a bioinformatic tool. The sudent should also be able to interpret the results of performed analyzes and write a scientific manuscript.
Prerequisites
completed courses: Introduction to Bioinformatics Python Basics Molecular Biology and Genetics Diversity of Life Introduction to Genomics

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance assessment, Seminar work

Result: Project Report, should be approved by the supervisor and guarantor.
