Content of lectures: 1. Introduction: developmental biology - historical perspective, tools and models 2. Cell identity specification, maintenance and reprogramming 3. Molecular signalling in development - signal perception and transduction 4. Drosophila: Gene and pathway discovery and the genetic toolkit (Marek Jindra - BC AVČR - 9% per lecture) 5. Signalling in insect development: Drosophila and beyond (Marek Jindra - BC AVČR - 9% per lecture) 6. Cell signalling during early mammalian development I (Alex Bruce - PřF JČU - 9% per lecture) 7. Cell signalling during early mammalian development II (Alex Bruce - PřF JČU - 9% per lecture) 8. Plants: apical meristems and postembryonic body plan establishment - where is the germline? 9. Requirements on student: credit: student presentation (10 min) in the form of journal club: presentation of recent influential findings in developmental biology of selected (model) organism. exam: Oral or short answer written (min. 50 %).
