Course content
Students are given presentations from lectures. Content of lectures: 1.Parasitology as clinical discipline.. Entamoeba histolytica and other intestinal amoebae.. 2. Giardia intestinalis.. Balantidium coli. Intestinal Apicomplexa.. 3. Intestinal Trematoda and Cestoda.. 4. Intestinal Nematoda. 5. Tissue Nematoda 6. Tissue Cestoda and Trematoda. 7. Malaria.8. Trypanosoma and Leishmania. 9. Trichomonas vaginalis, Naegleria and PAM, Acanthamoeba and GAE. 10. Oportunistic parasioses, Toxoplasma gondii, Pmeumocystis jiroveci. 11. Medical entomology.12.Medical acarology. 13. Medical mycoparasitology. Content of practicals: Safety precausions in parasitological lab. Trichrome staining of stool smears. Cultivation of Entamoeba histolytica.. Methylviolet staining. Concentration methods - flotation and M.I.F.C. AMS III, Intestinal and tissue trematodes and cestodes. Trichinella sp.diagnostics. Determination of eggs. Schistosoma spp. Blood smears, staining, differential diagnostics of Plasmodium spp.. Pappenheim staining. Wet mounts and dry smears - diagnostics of T. vaginalis. . Amphizoic amoebae.in culture. Serological methods: IFAT, ELISA Cultivation of microsporidia in cell cultures. Calcofluor staining. Parasitic insects. Parasitic arthropods. Diagnostics of scabies. Diagnostics of dermatophytes. Excursion to Parasitological lab in hospital.

Basical information about human parasites (protists, helminths and parasitic arthropods) and parasitic diseases.
Basic knowledge of human parasites.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Test

A) credit: 1. Submission of practice protocols (including drawings of microscopic slides) 2. Determination of the parasite on the microscopic specimen B) Examination: to answer correctly at least 2/3 of the questions of the written test. In the following oral part of the exam, correct or complete the answers from the test and answer correctly at least 1 of the 2 additional oral questions.
