Course content
Content of lectures: 1. Laboratory haematology - subject definition. Fundamentals of comparative haematology. 2. Characterization of haematopoietic organs. Haematopoiesis development. Common characteristics of haematopoietic organs. 3. Morphology of erythropoiesis and granulopoiesis. 4. Morphology of lymphopoiesis , monocytopoiesis and trombocytopoiesis. 5. Stem cells: their features, significance for gene therapy, apoptosis. 6. Growth factors. The role of extracellular matrix in haematopoiesis. 7. Erythrocyte and its disorders, anaemia. 8. Granulopoiesis and granulocyte, granulocyte function disorders, quantitative granulocyte disorders, leukaemia. 9. Monocyte and macrophage. Monocyte and macrophage production. Macrophage and monocyte function disorders. Neoplasia of monocyte-macrophage system. Lymphocyte. Lymphocyte function. Lymphocyte production. Lymphocyte production and function disorders. Lymphoproliferative disease. 11. Thrombocyte. Thrombocyte production and origin. Structural physiology of thrombocytes. Thrombocyte function. Adhesion. Aggregation. Degranulation. Thrombocyte disorders. Thrombocytopenia. Thrombocytopenia due to increased loss of thrombocytes. Thrombocytopenia due to decreased production of thrombocytes. Thrombocytopathy. Learning outcomes
Presentation of the basis of laboratory haematology and acquiring of basic laboratory skill in this discipline.
Student will orientate in basics of hemathology. Student will understand to terms as haematopoiesis, erythropoiesis, granulopoiesis, lymphopoiesis, monocytopoiesis, thrombopoiesis. Student will learn about properties and functions of particulary blood cells and blood elements. Student will be able to name disorders of these bloods elements and theoretically applicate specific pharmaceutical drugs.
