Course content
Content of lectures: 1. Haematopoiesis - origin of blood cells, haematopoietic organs, pathology - interpretation. Red blood cells - differentiation, maturation, disorders - interpretation. 2. Granulocytes - differentiation, maturation, disorders - interpretation. 3. Lymphocytes - differentiation, maturation, pathology and correction of disorders. Thrombocytes - differentiation, maturation, disorders - interpretation. 3-5. Anaemia; interpretation of laboratory findings in terms of clinical manifestations. 6. Acute leukaemia, diagnostics. 7. Chronic myeloid leukaemia, polycythaemia vera, myelofibrosis, essential thrombocytopenia. 8. Lymphoproliferative disorders, non-cancer disorders of white blood cells. 9-10. Coagulation disorders, interpretation of pathologic laboratory findings. 11. Separation and conservation of blood components, haemotherapy. 12. Immunohematology. 13. Serum markers and izoenzymes. 14. Bone marrow transplantation, supporting laboratory haematological examinations. Content of practices: Haematological laboratory methods in routine operation of regional hospital. In addition to routine operation, the emphasis is put on coagulation tests.

Learning outcomes
Advanced haematology, haematopathology, interpretation of the results of laboratory examination methods in clinical haematology.
Student will have knowledge in process of haemopoiesis and overview in bloods compounds. Student will orientate in bloods diseases and their therapies.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge in circulatory system.

Assessment methods and criteria
Combined exam

Passing the oral examination - 2 out of 4 questions must be answered Presence at the practicals (1 absence maximum)
