Course content
Course content 1. Theory of sentence models 2. Functional sentence perspective 3. German sentence grammar 4. Peculiarities and irregularities of sentence structure 5. The sentence frame and its violation 6. - 7. Developmental tendencies in the syntax of contemporary German 8. Means of sentence condensation, nominalization and verbalization 9. Congruence 10. Coordinate clauses 11. - 13. Subordinate clauses 14. Infinitive constructions

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to provide students with an extended and comprehensive overview of the syntax of contemporary German at both the theoretical and practical level and to convey a detailed knowledge of the theory of sentence patterns, current sentence structure and the verb sequence of German sentences, with particular reference to the position of the clause members in the middle of the sentence. Emphasis is also placed on the peculiarities and irregularities of sentence structure, developments in the syntax of contemporary German, the means of sentence condensation, nominalization and verbalization, and congruence. Students will gain advanced knowledge of parataxis and hypotaxis. In the seminars, these grammatical areas will be practiced practically in real situations. Lectures and seminars are conducted in German.
Learning Outcomes Upon completion of the course, students will be sufficiently familiar with the listed syntactic areas of contemporary German. Through practical practice in seminars, students will be able to apply their knowledge of German sentence structure in real-life situations.

Assessment methods and criteria
Test

Written test to test advanced theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of syntax; continuous preparation for the class in the form of self-study according to the teacher's assignment; active participation in the seminar. The knowledge is tested in German.
