Learning outcomes
Students are theoretically proficient in the basics of scientific work: preparation of seminar papers, bachelor and master theses, bibliographic research, research on specialist literature, citation from specialist literature, etc. The theoretical knowledge acquired will then be applied practically in the preparation of their own seminar paper. In order to successfully complete their studies and professional training, students must familiarize themselves with the specialist literature (dictionaries, grammars, basic language manuals, journals, large libraries and Germanistic institutions of the German-speaking world) and master the technical vocabulary to an appropriate extent, which they will use in the subsequent study of individual language disciplines. The course also focuses on basic knowledge of language theory, understanding the structure of the language system and its individual functions, and a contrastive comparison of Czech and German. Lectures and seminars are held in German.
Students gain an overview of primary and secondary literature in individual language disciplines, learn to work independently with different types of dictionaries and grammars, or actively search for high-quality sources of information. They are familiarized with the principles of scientific work (structure of scientific work, citation of specialist literature, research) and can apply them in practice. They will receive basic information about the language in general and about the German language in relation to Germanic linguistics in particular. They are thus prepared for the study of individual language disciplines and for independent self-education, which is absolutely necessary for the exercise of the teaching profession.
