Course content
1. Introduction 2-3. Educational sciences: overview, philosophy and methodology of science. 4. Educational research 5. Educational processes and their context. 6. Aims, results and effects of education. 7. Students: subjects or objects of education? 8. Teacher / Educator: professional characteristics in the perspective of educational research. 9. Curriculum. 10. Educational institutions. ISCED. 11. Contemporary trends in education

Learning outcomes
The course aims at providing students with comprehensive intoduction to the modern concept of educational sciences as well as the concept of pedagogy as ethically grounded practice. The course serves as foundations for further studies in the field of education.
Student will acquire: - knowledge of key terms in education - knowledge of educational disciplines - knowledge of key principles of scientific work - critical reading skills

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Written examination, Essay, Didactic test, Combined exam, Seminar work

Before the exam, students are required to: <ul> <li>Sign in the online course, which is available as a study support (see link in the "Activities" section or elearning.jcu.cz). <li>Complete two assignments (introductory essay and a paper) according to the instructions given in the online course. <li>Study thematic areas of the course (students are provided with a selection of texts and audio recordings of lectures with commentary on the thematic areas). <li>Pass an online test and obtain min. 60 points. </ul>After fulfilling the above mentioned conditions for admission to the exam, students take a written exam. In case of successful completion (minimum score of 60 points), the final score is calculated as a weighted average of the scores for the paper (weight 1), the online test (weight 1) and the written exam (weight 2). The final score is calculated as follows: 100 - 92 % ... A 91 -- 84 % ... B 83 -- 76 % ... C 75 -- 68 % ... D 67 -- 60 % ... E 59 -- 0 % ... F In case of failure (score lower than 60 %), a maximum of two more exam attempts is allowed.
