Course content
1. Family as a social institution. 2. Contemporary family, its structure, value orientation. 3. Relationships and processes in family, formation of behaviour patterns, forming attitudes. 4. Family and educational institutions, influence of media. 5. Functional-clinical families, ethnic families. 6. Family and its development cycle, generational cohabitation. 7. Family and the way of life, the importance of free time. 8. Youth, peer groups, subcultures. 9. Social deviance and deviant behaviour of youth. 10. Youth and globalization.

Learning outcomes
The aim of this subject is to acquaint students with the basic characteristics of the family as a social institution, mechanisms of its influence on individuals and with current issues of the contemporary family. This course will also describe socialization of the individual with an emphasis on the specifics of young people generation in the context of the development cycle and the family life cycle.
Students will demonstrate their understanding of the dynamic changes in the family structures that take place in the context of a historical development of western societies, as well as the Czech society. They will be further able to explain the value and the political family context and the typical interactive patterns in the family. They will further explain the principles of professional work with families, as well as the specific problems related to clinical dysfunctional families.
