Course content
Topics: A role of social work, role of social pedagogue. (term social work x social pedagogy) Paradigms of social work. The basic aim of social work. Directive and non-directive methods of intervention in help system help system and control system. Emergency intervention, its types, stages and providers. Mediation as a conflict solving method. Probation as an alternative work with juvenile offenders. Burnout syndrome. (energy aspects of helping, border between helper and client) Supervision in the helping professions. Social work with different groups (abused women, CAN syndrome) Current legal standards in the area of social services, care, social- legal protection, institutional and protective education. (practical examples and applications of helping in the area of social- legal protection).

Learning outcomes
The aim of this subject is to acquaint students with the basics of social work and its application in practice. Students are able to distinguish work of a social worker and the work of social pedagogue. Students are also able to apply their knowledge while solving model situations and analyzing case studies.
Students will be provided with an outline of basic information concerning social work with problematic families, they will learn about the system of substitutional family care in the sphere of institutional care, pedagogical and social methods of work with children and families and about particular institutions providing institutional care. They will also learn about diagnostic work of special education pedagogue, identification of asocial and antisocial behaviour, classification of behavioural disturbances.
