Course content
1) Introduction to the study of comparative education, basic question and topics of the field, the development of the field, the role of international organisations, units and ways of comparison 2) Comparison of education systems (different models and structures of education systems, sources of information) 3) Comparison of education results (quality and effectivity of education abroad) 4) International comparative research of teaching and learning in school classes and pedagogy 5) Hot topics of comparative education 6) Students' presentations and discussion

Learning outcomes
What can be inspiring for education beyond the borders of our country? How does the education in neighbouring countries in Europe or other parts of the world differ from education in the Czech Republic? What can we learn from them and what do we excel in when it comes to international comparison? The course introduces students into the field of comparative education, the aim is to present basic concepts of comparative education, possibilities and risks of comparative analyses and to present education in selected foreign education systems especially in Europe, but also in some non-european regions (Africa, south-east Asia).
The student is acquainted with basic conceptions of comparative education and is familiar with selected issues of school education abroad.
Prerequisites
not required, at least passive command of one foreign language is recommended C capacity of the seminar is aimed only for students of the 4th year of Bachelor fields of study focused on education (leading to Učitelství pro 2. stupeň ZŠ)

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance assessment

Presentation of paper on selected topic or issue related to education abroad (the student may focus on topic of own personal choice approved by the teacher or may choose from a list of topics offered by the teacher). Preparation of a paper (minimum 5 pages) which reflects the teacher's feedback during the oral presentation.
