General issues in education 1. Focusing on education 2. Defining education 3. Defining humanity and the process of humanization General pedagogy 4. What does pedagogy do? History of pedagogical thought 5. Comenius 6-7. Traditional and free schools (Rousseau, Pestalozzi, Herbart) 8. Reform pedagogy and the contemporary alternative schools 9. John Dewey - democratic education Work of teachers and teachers' knowledge 10. Learning styles 11. School socialization 12.Teacher authority and classroom management 13.Nonverbal interventions 14. Learning outcomes
The aim is to develop a theoretical basis for the future development of teacher identity in the following areas: general pedagogy, education, historical development of pedagogical thought, history of Czech schooling with a focus on the 1920-1940s, alternative education, teachers' knowledge, sociology of education, conceptualizing a pupil as a subject of education, and basic approaches to classroom management.
Students should acquire theoretical knowledge required for developing teacher identity in the following areas: general pedagogy, education as a basic requirement for a social development and a cultivation of humanness, history of educational ideas with a specific focus on the tension between free education and the traditional schooling, history of reform schooling in Czechoslovakia in the 1920's and 1930's, issues in alternative education, teachers' knowledge, sociology of education, and classroom management and discipline.
