Course content
1.The concept, subject and aim of logopaedics. Basic terminology. Communication disorders (CD). General approach to the education of pupils suffering from communication disorders in the province of the Ministry of Education. 2.The development of logopaedics as an independent field of science. Logopaedics in the system of sciences. 3.Describing logopaedic methods, forms, principles and means, and the potential of their use in pre-primary education. 4.Communication and the ontogenetic development of communicative competence. The ontogeny of speech. 5. Impaired speech and language development. The CD aetiology, symptomatology and diagnostics. 6.The CD categories: a) Delayed speech development. Developmental dysphasia. b) Acquired disorders. Child aphasia. c) Acquired psychogenic aphasia (selective mutism). 7.Other CD categories - Disfluency. Stammering (balbutient); spluttering (tumultus sermonis). The psycho-social consequences of developmental disfluency. 8. More CD categories - Impaired ability to articulate speech. Slurred speech; dysarthria. 9.Further CD categories - Voice and speech impairments caused by congenital orofacial anomalies. Rhinolalia (rhinophonia). 10.Other speech impairments and disorders. Dysphagia. Graphic speech disorder. 11.More CD categories - Symptomatic disorders. Classification; aetiology; approaches; effects. The specifics of the CD suffering children´s communication in the educational process. 12.The CD prevention in pre-primary education. Preventive programmes. The psycho-social aspects of the child´s development. 13.Special pedagogical counselling centres for CD children and their parents. The conditions for inclusion; its implementation.

Learning outcomes
Students will acquire a basic understanding of logopaedia as the science of communication disorders in relation to the specifics of pre-school development and pre-primary education.
A solid grasp of basic logopaedic terminology; effective implementation of the knowledge of developmental psychology and special pedagogy in the field of speech therapy.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of biology, psychology and neurology.

Assessment methods and criteria
Combined exam

Regular attendance at lectures and participation in the seminar; studying specialised literature; completion of a seminar paper.
