Course content
Defining the basic concepts: disorder; dysfunction v. afunction; aetiopathogenesis; symptom v. syndrom. The history of SPUCH. The theoretical framework; a psychological approach; a neurobiological approach. The relation between cause and effect - correlative. The influence of sex. The cultural-linguistic influence (i.e. transparent v. untransparent orthography). The SPUCH typology (according to Matějček; according to Baker). SPUCH and socialisation; the implications of SPUCH for the self-concept and quality of life. Elementary diagnostical approaches; the remedial potential and its perspective. Collaboration between institutions providing SPUCH diagnostics and remedial treatment.

Learning outcomes
The course aims at introducing students to the theory and practice of specific learning/behavioural disorders (only SPUCH below) at a general level. On completion, students should have a solid grasp of a) the subject matter related to the themes, see below; b) elementary diagnostical skills; c) competence to communicate with psychological counselling and institutions dealing with SPUCH sufferers.

A basic knowledge of biology, a general understanding of psychology and pedagogy
