Course content
1. Brief history and development of psychiatry, factors applied in the etiology of mental disorders 2. Disorders of mental functions, psychiatric syndromes 3. Developmental disorders, behavioral disorders 4. Organic disorders in psychiatry 5. Mental disorders caused by the effect of psychoactive substances, addictive risks 6. Psychotic disorders 7. Affective disorders 8. Neurotic and anxiety disorders 9. Eating disorders, inorganic sleep disorders 10. Specific personality disorders 11. Generational mental disorders, peculiarities in individual periods of life 12. Urgent conditions in psychiatry, first aid 13. Basic concepts of psychiatric diagnostics and therapy, legal issues

Learning outcomes
The course is designed as a theoretical and practical unit. It introduces clinical conditions, diseases, and mental disorders that significantly affect human health and quality of life. It informs about a multidisciplinary approach to the care of mental health and psychiatric conditions. It clarifies the differences in individual care in primary, secondary, and tertiary care facilities.
The student is familiar with basic psychiatric issues, especially with the syndromes accompanying disability. He/she understands the development of mental illness and its impact on an individual's life.
