Course content
Somatopedia as a scientific discipline of special education - history of the discipline - relation to other related scientific disciplines (interdisciplinary relations) Child (client) with health handicap, physical (motor) handicap - most common types of physical handicap - mild braind dysfunctions and affiliated impairments - neuromuscular diseases - states after brain-damages - orthopaedic and other somatic impairments - combined impairments - diagnostics and treatment of these impairments Psychological aspects of care for children with health handicap - distinctions of psychodiagnostics and special education diagnostics in somatopedia - process of conciliation of parents with a birth of child wih handicap and its acceptance, ethical and psychological consequences - problems of conciliation of adult persons with severe somatic (motor) handicap Integration (inclusion) of persons with physical handicap - integration - inclusion, possibility and reality - individual and group integration - problems of integration of persons with physical handicap - implications of educational integration and integrated education of children and pupils with physical handicap - possibilities of training and educaton of children with physical handicap Comprehensive rehabilitation system - therapeutic means of comprehensive rehabilitation system - educational means of c.r.s. - social means of c.r.s. - work means of c.r.s. Learning outcomes
- to introduce students to problems of physical (motor) handicap - to emphasise the importance of educational means in the frame of comprehensive rehabilitation system of people with physical handicap (somatopedia), perception of rehabilitation as an educational phenomenon - to support the understanding of rehabilitation process as a interdisciplinary activity in the frame of multidisciplinary professional team
Student understands the implications and position of somatopedia in the field of special education and reflects interdisciplinary relations of this subject. He orientates in the scope of problems of care for a child (person) with health handicap with accent on physical (motor) handicap and affiliated impairments. He is acquainted with a complex care for these children (persons) in sense of comprehensive rehabilitation system. Student is capable of adequate orientation in proffessional activities in the frame of multidisciplinary team. Last but not least, he is acquainted with problems of integration (inclusion) of persons with physical (motor) and combined handicap to society.
Prerequisites
Study of somatopedia assumes the basic knowledge and orientation in problems of special education, psychology and child-neurology.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Test

For the inclusion: - fulfillment of written test targeted on orientation of the student in basic terms and knowledge of somatopedia For the oral exam - demonstration of knowledge of concepts and issues of somatopedics (particularly the possibilities and method of education of physically, i.e. motor handicapped persons) - understanding of relationships and connections among individual disciplines of special pedagogy (interdisciplinary relationships) - knowledge of professional literature - ability to apply knowledge and competence in practice
